PT referrals may carry serious consequences

Labs that violate PT referral regulations face the most serious of sanctions, including loss of their CLIA certificate for at least one year. In addition, regulators may strip a lab?s director and owner of their right to direct or own a lab for two years. Finally, the name of the offending lab will be listed on CMS? Annual Laboratory Registry on the CMS CLIA Web site.
