Hospital employee lost patient information on a subway train

A Massachusetts General Hospital employee left paperwork that contained protected health information for 66 patients,on a subway train, The Boston Globe reported March 24. The paperwork contained protected health information including patient names, diagnoses, name of provider and billing information.
On the morning of March 9, a manager in the infectious disease billing department brought the information on the train with intentions of completing some work from home, according to the article. The transit police were unable to locate the missing records.
A spokesperson said the hospital complied with privacy laws by disclosing the privacy breach to the affected patients and the authorities.
