On January 30, federal authorities arrested Robert Bourseau, former co-owner and top executive at City of Angels Medical Center in Los Angeles, in connection with a Medicare fraud scheme that recruited homeless people for unnecessary medical procedures, according to a Department of Justice (DOJ) press release.
The indictment also names Dante Nicholson, former vice-president at City of Angels, who must appear for an arraignment in federal court next month.
This is the second indictment in the case. On December 12, 2008, Rudra Sabaratnam, former CEO of City of Angels, pleaded guilty to healthcare fraud charges stemming from the same scheme. Sabarantnam agreed to pay $4.1 million in restitution and will appear before a judge on June 9 for sentencing. He faces up to 10 years in federal prison.

- The investigation needs to go deeper. Robert Bourseau?s daughters and sons were also heavily involved. Especially Robin Coles and her husband were all well aware of what was being portrayed. This family has been involved in some sort of health care fraud for years even before they owned CAMC. Former CEO John Fenton is was also willingly involved in the scheme. Several prominent Los Angeles MDs should be counting their days.
