ICD-10: Early preparation tips

The switch to ICD-10 may be a few years away, but it’s worth preparing for the change. At presstime, ICD-10 compliance was proposed for October 1, 2011, but there’s a possibility the deadline could be extended thanks to thousands of comments sent to CMS.
Why ICD-10?
Although upgrading to the more detailed ICD-10 system will cost time and money, it’s worth the effort expended by the medical community, says Christopher P. Young, CHC, president of Laboratory Management Support Services in Phoenix. “We have to do it; not just as a lab community, but as a country,” Young says.
