HHS sets ICD-10-CM/PCS adoption for 2013
On January 15, HHS announced its decision to require adoption of the ICD-10-CM/PCS code sets by October 1, 2013. HHS also announced updates to the standard electronic transactions under HIPAA to accommodate the ICD-10-CM/PCS code sets; the compliance date for the updated transactions standards is January 1, 2012. HHS published in the January 16 Federal Register final rules regarding these requirements.

CMS proposes changes to cytology proficiency testing (PT) requirements under CLIA
On January 16, CMS published in the Federal Register a proposed rule in which it proposed to amend the CLIA regulations for cytology PT to reflect changes in laboratory operation and practices.
