Given that we are now into the second week of January, you have probably been wondering when CMS was going to release the January update to the Outpatient Code Editor (OCE) specifications. The OCE specifications are updated each calendar quarter. The January update is often particularly significant because it operationalizes many of the changes made in the final rule for the new year.
Well, on January 9, CMS attempted to post the January OCE update on its Web site (with a January 5 implementation date). Unfortunately, the link from the main transmittals page does not work—there is a typo in the URL. However, if you enter the URL directly in your browser or click on the URL listed below, you will be able to access the transmittal. The correct URL is:
http://www.cms.hhs.gov/transmittals/downloads/R1664CP.pdf
As with last week’s January OPPS update, be prepared to spend some time reviewing the January OCE specification transmittal—it is 100 pages.
