Technologists are the eyes and ears for interpreting physicians, who might not see patients face-to-face. The technologist takes the patient’s history, examines the patient, and works with her directly.
In that role, the technologist might notice details missed by the referring physician, such as a small dimple on a woman’s breast that could indicate a cancer, says Valerie Andolina, RT(R)(M), imaging technology manager at the Elizabeth Wende Breast Care in Rochester, NY.
