Nurse sentenced for Medicare fraud

Marie Weller King, registered nurse and owner of King and Associates, will serve 18 months in prison and pay $600,000 in restitution for defrauding Medicare, according to a Department of Justice (DOJ) press release.
According to the DOJ, King and Associates, based in Alabama, provided consulting services for skilled nursing facilities. From January 2002 until approximately December 2006, King created false documents claiming physicians working for her company performed a greater amount utilization review services for skilled nursing facilities than had actually been provided.
