Jackson Madison General Hospital, in Jackson TN, and Milan General Hospital, in Milan, TN, agreed to separate settlements for allegedly submitting false claims, according to a Department of Justice (DOJ) press release.
Jackson Madison General Hospital agreed to pay the United States $2.5 million to settle claims it submitted false claims for emergency transportation services between July 1, 1997 and June 31, 2002. According to the DOJ, the hospital billed Medicare for emergency transportation services that did not meet the program’s medical necessity and documentation criteria.
Milan General Hospital agreed to pay $5.3 million to settle allegations it improperly admitted Medicare beneficiaries to the psychiatric unit and billed Medicare for lengths of stay that exceeded Medicare’s coverage limit from July 1, 1999 to December 2003.
