By now, most people have converted their crates of albums, shoeboxes of cassettes, and stacks of CDs to digital music files. Providers are slowly making a similar move by adopting electronic health records (EHR).

EHRs, like iPods and other digital music players, make thousands of files readily available in one place. However, before sinking a significant amount of money into an automated system, providers need to do their homework.
