Signature requirements cause labs headaches

In August, CMS issued a transmittal clarifying physician signature requirements for clinical diagnostic tests. The update—Change Request 6100, Transmittal 94—was made to the Medicare Benefit Policy Manual and states that physician signatures are not required on orders for diagnostic tests that are paid on the basis of the clinical laboratory fee schedule, the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule, or for physician pathology services.
