OIG issues report on CMS’ enforcement of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) security rule

On October 30, the OIG issued a review of CMS’ oversight of the HIPAA security rule. The OIG found that CMS took limited actions to ensure that covered entities adequately implemented the rule’s provisions and has no effective mechanism for ensuring compliance.

OIG issues review of high-dollar payments for Medicare outpatient claims processed by National Government Services, Inc., (NGS) of Massachusetts for calendar years (CY) 2004 and 2005

On October 27, the OIG released a review of high-dollar payments for Medicare outpatient claims processed in CYs 2004 and 2005 by NGS, a fiscal intermediary. The OIG found that NGS overpaid providers in Massachusetts $728,000 for high-dollar Medicare outpatient claims during this period.

OIG issues review of high-dollar payments for Medicare outpatient claims processed by National Government Services, Inc., (NGS) of New Hampshire and Vermont for calendar years (CY) 2004–2006

On October 27, the OIG released a review of high-dollar payments for Medicare outpatient claims processed for calendar years (CY) 2004–2006 by NGS, a fiscal intermediary. The OIG found that of the 12 high-dollar payments during this period, 10 were for claims with provider billing errors that resulted in overpayments totaling $702,294.
