New NEJM study: CAD results not so glum now

CAD is as effective as a double read by two radiologists, albeit with a slightly higher recall rate, according to a new study in the October 16 New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM). It’s positive news for the technology, which lost some credibility in 2007 when a study in the same journal said it might do more harm than good because it didn’t increase the cancer detection rate, yet caused more women to undergo unnecessary breast biopsies.
