CMS clarifies guidance on use of standing orders in hospitals
On October 24, CMS issued a memo clarifying the use of standing orders in hospitals and the circumstances under which signatures are required on pre-printed order sets.

OIG releases report on high-dollar payments for Medicare Part A outpatient claims processed by National Government Services for the period January 1, 2003, through December 31, 2005
On October 20, the OIG released a review of high-dollar payments for Medicare Part A outpatient claims processed by National Government Services, a Medicare fiscal intermediary, for the period January 1, 2003, through December 31, 2005. The OIG found that 38 of the 166 high-dollar claims resulted in overpayments, totaling $14.6 million.
