The September 30 issue of the Federal Register contains the Office of the Inspector General’s (OIG) supplemental compliance program guidance (CPG) for nursing facilities. The voluntary guidance supplements the nursing facility CPG released in 2000.
According to the Federal Register, the supplemental CPG responds to developments in the nursing facility industry since 2000, including:
- Changes in the way nursing facilities deliver and receive reimbursement for healthcare services
- Evolving industry practices
- Enforcement priorities, including the government’s heightened focus on quality of care
More specifically, the new CGP addresses:
- Staffing
- Resident care plans
- Medication management
- Appropriate use of psychotropic medications
- Resident safety
