Medicare Part B premiums remain the same in 2009
Healthcare Auditing Weekly, September 23, 2008
CMS recently announced its premiums and deductibles for 2009 in a press release on the CMS Web site.
The 2008 $96.40 Medicare Part B monthly premium will remain the same in 2009. This is the first year in 2000 that there was no increase in the standard premium over the prior year, the press release states.
This monthly premium paid by beneficiaries enrolled in Medicare Part B covers a portion of the cost of physician services, outpatient hospital services, certain home health services, and durable medical equipment. The premium is set to cover about one-fourth of the average cost of Part B services sustained by beneficiaries 65 years and older.
