CMS issues transmittals implementing artificial heart national coverage determination (NCD)
On August 29, CMS issued two transmittals implementing its May 1 NCD that established coverage for artificial hearts under certain circumstances.
Effective date: May 1, 2008
Implementation date: October 6, 2008.

CMS issues transmittal clarifying previous transmittal on continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy for obstructive sleep apnea
On August 29, CMS issued a transmittal rescinding and replacing a July 25 transmittal it had issued to implement its national coverage determination for CPAP therapy for obstructive sleep apnea.
Effective date: March 13, 2008
Implementation date: August 4, 2008

CMS clarifies physician signature requirements for diagnostic tests
On August 29, CMS issued a transmittal updating the Medicare Benefit Policy Manual to clarify the physician signature requirements for diagnostic tests. See the “Note from Hugh” above.
Effective date: January 1, 2003
Implementation date: September 30, 2008
