When a black woman receives a diagnosis of breast cancer, she’s more likely to die from the disease than a white woman. Although the reasons for the disparity remain unclear, several factors are at play, according to a recent study published in the August 1 Cancer.
Often, when the disease is first detected, it’s at a more advanced stage compared to white women. Black women are also more likely to be younger when they get the disease, which tends to be more aggressive in younger women. They are also less likely to get recommended treatments, which may be another reason for increased mortality.
