CMS releases guidance on billing for new hemophilia clotting factor code
On July 18, CMS issued a transmittal providing guidance on billing for HCPCS code Q4096 (Injection, Von Willebrand Factor Complex, Human, Ristocetin Cofactor) furnished to inpatients.
Effective date: April 1, 2008
Implementation date: January 5, 2009

CMS revises and reissues July Outpatient Code Editor (OCE) specifications
On July 18, CMS issued a transmittal revising the previously released July OCE specifications to reflect statutory changes made by the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008 (MIPPA) relating to payment for brachytherapy and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals (see "Note from Hugh" above for more information about the MIPPA).
Effective Date: July 1, 2008
Implementation Date: July 7, 2008

CMS releases MLN Matters articles
CMS released two MLN Matters articles last week relating to transmittals previously announced in the Medicare Weekly Update.
- Update--Long Term Care Hospital (LTCH) Prospective Payment System (PPS) Rate Year 2009
- Percutaneous Transluminal Angioplasty (PTA) with stenting
In addition, on July 18 CMS released a special edition MLN Matters article on the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008.
