CMS contracts Medicare claims services to EDS subsidiary

Healthcare Auditing Weekly, July 8, 2008

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has awarded a $148 million contract to National Heritage Insurance Company (NHIC), a subsidiary of Electronic Data Systems (EDS) to administer Part A and B Medicare claims payments to providers in four states.

With the one-year contract, NHIC will serve approximately 54,000 clinicians and 233 Medicare hospitals in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington, according to a press release from EDS.

NHIC will serve as a point of contact for the processing and payment of Medicare fee-for-service claims. It will also provide vital administrative functions such as appeals, audits and reimbursements, and utilization review for hospitals, skilled nursing facilities and physicians in the four states.
