CMS updates National Coverage Determinations manual section on computed tomographic angiography
On June 27, CMS issued a transmittal revising the Medicare National Coverage Determinations manual to state that no national coverage decision will be issued for computed tomographic angiography (CTA). Medicare coverage of cardiac CTA to diagnosis coronary artery disease will be left to the discretion of the local Medicare contractors (i.e., FIs and MACs).
Effective date: March 12, 2008
Implementation date: July 28, 2008

CMS issues implementation instructions for the 2009 Inpatient Psychiatric Facilities Prospective Payment System changes
On June 27, CMS issues a transmittal providing implementation instructions for the 2009 Inpatient Psychiatric Facilities Prospective Payment System changes.
Effective date: July 1, 2008
Implementation date: July 7, 2008

CMS adds National Coverage Determinations manual section on FDG PET imaging for infection and inflammation
On June 27, CMS issued a transmittal adding a section on FDG PET imaging for infection and inflammation to the Medicare National Coverage Determinations manual. Under this new section, FDG PET imaging will continue to be noncovered for certain specified off-label uses.
Effective date: March 19, 2008
Implementation date: July 28, 2008
