North East Medical Services agreed to pay $4,964,646 to settle allegations the clinic submitted false claims to the California Medicaid program (Medi-Cal).
The Department of Justice alleged NEMS inaccurately reported select revenues received for vision care, pharmacy, laboratory, and radiology services provided to Medi-Cal beneficiaries from 2001 through 2005.
A former employee of NEMS blew the whistle on the clinic and filed charges under the qui tam provisions of the federal False Claims Act. She will receive $562,600 for her participation in the investigation.
