CMS issues July 2008 update of the Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS)
On June 19, CMS issued a transmittal announcing the July 2008 update to the hospital OPPS.
Effective date: July 1, 2008

CMS updates the manual instructions on the physician supervision requirements applicable to services furnished by a hospital “incident to” the services of a physician
On June 19, CMS issued a transmittal updating chapter six, section 20.5.1 of the Medicare Benefit Policy Manual, “Coverage of outpatient therapeutic services incident-to a physician’s service furnished on or after August 1, 2000.”
CMS announces new waived tests under Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA)
On June 20, CMS issued a transmittal announcing new waived tests under CLIA.

CMS releases MLN Matters articles
CMS released two MLN Matters articles last week relating to transmittals previously announced in the Medicare Weekly Update. In addition, CMS also released a MLN Matters Special Edition article related to coverage of diabetes screening tests.
