FISS system updated for Present on Admission (POA) exempt hospitals
On June 13, CMS issued a transmittal announcing that the FISS system will be updated for hospitals exempt from POA reporting (i.e., non Inpatient Prospective Payment System hospitals). The system will instruct the grouper to not apply the Hospital Acquired Condition logic to these hospitals.
Effective date: October 1, 2008
Implementation date: October 6, 2008

CMS announces new K code for replacement interface material
On June 13, CMS announced the establishment of a new K code for replacement interface material: K0672 – Addition to lower extremity orthosis, removable soft interface, all components, replacement only, each.
Effective date: April 1, 2008
Implementation date: June 27, 2008
