Leonardo Lozada, Eliades Diaz, Jimmy A. Soto, and Jose D. Claro, all of Miami, are charged with attempting to defraud Medicare by submitting $5.4 million in claims relating to durable medical equipment (DME) in 2005 and 2006, according to a Department of Justice press release.
Medicare paid Med-Pro, a Hialeah-based DME company, approximately $1.3 million in response to the bogus claims for DME items that were not prescribed by doctors or delivered to Medicare patients.
Soto and Diaz are also charged with money laundering in connection with the funds obtained through the alleged fraud.
