Complying with federal statutes and regulations aimed at eliminating fraud is becoming more complex for hospitals, according to a Deloitte Forensic Center report.
Hospitals face an increased number of regulations aimed at eliminating kickbacks, unnecessary referrals, or outright fraud. Last September, regulators announced a new information-collection program that will require 500 hospitals to file comprehensive reports on their contractual relationships with physicians.
Over the past three years, at least 12 hospitals or healthcare systems have entered into corporate integrity agreements or certification of compliance agreements with the OIG.
