Don't let your staff members' HIPAA awareness lapse

If you have settled into a compliance routine, be careful not to get into a rut: Your staff members may not know the ins and outs of patient privacy to the extent that you hope. Staff members retire, new ones come aboard, and even those who have been at their position for a while have lingering questions about what they can and cannot do with protected health information (PHI). Maintaining open lines of communication between employees and your facility’s privacy officer is essential to continued compliance and good stewardship of patient data.
