Tip: Design a data collection instrument
Healthcare Auditing Weekly, April 15, 2008
Planning an audit is much like creating a road map. First establish an objective, then identify and select data sources, and then create a sampling plan.
The next step is to design one data collection instrument. Running a drill in a simulated environment to verify employee training is a data collection tool. If the internal audit group established the drill itself, the drill would entail:
- Writing the simulation
- Selecting participants
- Training the observers
- Designing the form on which to record observations
- Staging the activity
Companies specialize in performing such disaster recovery drills and using one could save your organization the time and money it would take to create a drill.
