CMS issues extension of reasonable cost payment methodology for clinical lab tests furnished by hospitals with fewer than 50 beds in qualified rural areas
On April 4, CMS issued a transmittal announcing that it has extended through June 30, 2008 the reasonable cost payment methodology for clinical lab tests furnished by hospitals with fewer than 50 beds in qualified rural areas.
Effective date: Cost reporting periods beginning on July 1, 2007 through June 30, 2008
Implementation date: July 7, 2008

CMS issues revised instructions on counting beds for purposes of qualifying as a critical access hospital
On April 4, CMS issued a transmittal announcing revisions to the State Operations Manual appendix on "Survey Protocol, Regulations and Interpretive Guidelines for Critical Access Hospitals (CAHs)." The revisions relate primarily to the treatment of observation services furnished by CAHs.
Effective date: April 4, 2008
Implementation date: April 4, 2008

CMS announces no changes to coverage of percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA)
On April 4, CMS issued a transmittal announcing that it will make no changes to the national coverage determination applicable to PTA.
