A Florida physician faces a 54-count indictment, including 14 counts of healthcare fraud, according to a Department of Justice (DOJ) press release.

Robert L. Ignasiak, Jr., MD, was arrested in Freeport, FL, for allegedly writing false and fraudulent prescriptions that were not based on medical necessity. The DOJ alleges Ignasiak caused pharmacies to file false claims with Medicaid for those prescriptions.

Ignasiak is also charged with 38 counts of unlawfully dispensing controlled substances and two counts of dispensing controlled substances, the use of which resulted in the death of two persons.
