Nineteen HealthNow high-dollar payments inappropriate
Healthcare Auditing Weekly, February 26, 2008
Of the 268 high-dollar payments that HealthNow New York, Inc. made to providers between 2003-05, 19 were inappropriate, according to an OIG audit.
The OIG found HealthNow overpaid providers $236,977 across the 19 claims. Providers refunded $111,575 for eight of those claims prior to the OIG audit, but 11 claims totaling $125,402, remained outstanding.
The OIG recommended that HealthNow:
- Recover the $125,402 overpayment
- Consider identifying and recovering any additional overpayments made for high-dollar Part B claims paid after 2005
- Use the results of this audit in its provider education activities
