A healthcare entity's best defense against the fallout from a security breach is a two-tiered incident response team that effectively implements a solid response plan.

A large number of providers don't have effective response teams and plans in place, and this lack of planning makes them more vulnerable to legal, regulatory, and financial liability.

Here are four critical components of an effective response:

  • Form incident response teams
  • Develop a response plan
  • Decide if you need an attorney
  • Handle the media
