Tip: Monitoring programs
Healthcare Auditing Weekly, February 12, 2008
Establishing benchmarks is a key component of any monitoring program. Once each benchmark is set, establish parameters to dictate how much monitoring is necessary.
Facilities have plenty of options for selecting samples during monitoring. However, you can apply some general rules. Sample selection should include at least:
- A random component as the baseline for your review
- Focused samples driven by any deficiencies in your last audit
- Focused samples driven by current investigations
- Carriers' sampling procedures for developing error rates and extrapolating provider overpay methods
