OIG posts audit of Group Health Incorporated high dollar payments
Healthcare Auditing Weekly, January 22, 2008
Eleven of the 14 high-dollar Medicare payments made by Group Health Incorporated (GHI) to Part B providers were appropriate, according to an OIG audit.
Between 2003 and 2005, GHI processed 14 Medicare Part B payments of $10,000 or more. The audit found GHI overpaid providers $84,092 for three payments. Providers refunded two of the overpayments, totaling $69,394, prior to the audit, and one overpayment of $14,698 remained outstanding.
The OIG recommended that GHI:
- Recover the $14,698 overpayment
- Consider identifying and recovering any additional overpayments made for high-dollar Part B claims paid after 2005
