CMS announces correction of transfer DRG payment errors and corrections to the wage indices and geographic adjustment factors for certain providers
On January 4, CMS issued a transmittal announcing that it had discovered and corrected an error in the Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) Pricer software. The error was causing the Fiscal Intermediaries/MACs to improperly pay for cases involving "special pay" transfer DRGs. The transmittal also announced corrections to the wage indices and geographic adjustment factors for certain providers. CMS is requiring the FIs/MACs to reprocess all claims affected by these corrections.
Effective date: October 1, 2007
Implementation date: February 4, 2008

CMS releases updated drug pricing files
On January 8, CMS issued a transmittal announcing the release of the January 2008 update to the "average sales price" and "not otherwise classified" drug pricing files and certain revisions to prior drug pricing files. The transmittal also addresses numerous policy issues relating to CMS's payment methodology for drugs covered under Part B.
Effective date: January 1, 2008
Implementation date: January 7, 2008
