Tip: Determine whether your compliance program can withstand an examination
Healthcare Auditing Weekly, December 18, 2007
Here are some questions to ask to determine whether your facility's compliance program can withstand OIG examinations in a crisis:
- Do the constituents of your organization know that a compliance program exists?
- If there is an identified compliance issue, does an employee or agent feel comfortable reporting anonymously?
- If something is reported, do people feel it is effectively dealt with?
- Does your organization engage in auditing for the most-identified problem areas for your type of institution, referencing OIG guidance in its industry segment?
- Does training take place and penetrate to the right levels of your organization?
- Does compliance have board and high-level management support?
- Are there enough resources available to the compliance program?
