The OIG posted its 92-page plan on October 1 detailing what areas the OIG expects to audit in the coming year. The plan also examines areas of study for potential future enforcement action.
Compliance and audit professionals turn to the Work Plan to adjust their own compliance efforts to meet OIG concerns.
"The OIG is pretty systematic about how [it] examine[s] the program," says Stephen A. Miller, JD, chief compliance and privacy officer at Capital Health System, Inc., in Trenton, NJ. "Where there are signs of potential fraud, a history of mistaken payments, or where there are high-dollar spending increases for the program, [it] will be there protecting the interest of taxpayers."
Begin to refocus your organization's compliance and auditing strategies by paying close attention to the 2008 OIG Work Plan.
