CMS announces new and redefined patient discharge status codes
As reported in last week's Medicare Weekly Update, on November 2 CMS issued a transmittal announcing a change to the definition of discharge status code 05 and the creation of new discharge status code 70. On November 5, CMS issued a related MLN Matters article.

CMS issues coding and billing guidance for cases involving the biopsy or removal of an abnormality during a colorectal screening procedure
On November 2, CMS issued a special edition MLN Matters article clarifying coding and billing guidelines for cases in which an abnormality is biopsied or removed during a screening colonoscopy or a screening flexible sigmoidoscopy.
