Case management departments that can accurately report their financial and quality gains have numerous advantages, including growth of staff and expanding programs. It is thus advantageous for a case management director to request the daily LOS report in order to identify trends and variations that develop over time. Once comfortable with managing the daily report, a director may request a variety of alternative LOS reports, broken down into compartments such as:
* Physician
* Specialty
* Payer (Medicare, Medicaid, commercial, etc.)
* Case managers
* Year-to-year comparisons
These reports allow case managers to log any variances in LOS in a delay log, which will reveal the most frequent reasons for discharge delays, and thus help to cut hospital costs.
