California center, university partner to bring back former nurses

The medical center is partnering with Cal State San Marcos, which will be hosting the 10-week course. Participants will partake in both classroom learning and clinical training. The course itself has been around for about six years, but to increase the enrollment of former nurses, Tri-City is willing to cover up to half of their $2,400 tuition fee.
The area reportedly has one of the worst nursing shortages in the country, with only 356 nurses for every 100,000 residents. The national average stands at 787 nurses for that number of residents.
