The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), the research and quality assurance arm of CMS, has ranked Wisconsin the top state in the country for healthcare services, according to its third annual "State Snapshot" report.

The report bases its rankings on 129 quality performance measures such as ease of appointments for Medicare beneficiaries, low birth weight babies, implementation of core measure initiatives, and avoidable days and hospitalizations.

The State Snapshots provide state-specific healthcare quality information including strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement. The goal is to help state officials, and their public- and private-sector partners, better understand healthcare quality and disparities in their state, according to an AHRQ press release.
