Physicians would make substantial reductions in the care of Medicare beneficiaries, and in other components of their practices, if a 10% cut in their reimbursements becomes effective in 2008, according to a survey by the American Medical Association (AMA).
However, the AMA is working to ensure that physicians instead get at least a 1.7% increase, as recommended by the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission, according to a Bureau of National Affairs report.
Currently, a majority of Democratic and Republican lawmakers agree that a 10% cut to physicians would do much more harm than good.
