New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC, recently experienced an increase in admissions and ED cases, which is normal for the hospital in early spring. But the hospital was able to reduce wait times for patients by about two hours, thanks to some new techniques used to increase patient flow, according to the Wilmington, NC, Star News.
The hospital has opened a chest pain clinic and rapid admission unit in the last year, according to the Star News. The hospital also implemented a computerized tracking system for patients and expanded its ED.
The new clinic eased traffic in the ED, while the rapid admission process and computerized tracking helped to process patients into the system and gives caregivers a sense of how long people have been waiting.
