As the cost of healthcare continues to climb, so has the number of moderate-income, working families without health insurance. According to a study released by the Commonwealth Fund, the number of moderate income adults who lack insurance during any part of the year has increased to 41% in 2005, up from 28% in 2001.
Findings from the study show that while the lack of insurance continues to be the highest among families with incomes under $20,000, uninsured rates for moderate and middle income earners and their families are rising, putting their health and financial security at risk.
Of the estimated 48 million American adults who spent time uninsured in the past year, 67% were families where at least one person was working full time.
