Early feedback from seniors enrolled in a Medicare drug program is lukewarm, according to a recent Kaiser Health Poll Report. The survey revealed that eight out of 10 beneficiaries reported no problems in getting their prescriptions filled, while two out of 10 reported barriers to accessing their drugs
The survey examined the opinions of 517 adults ages 65 and older. Overall, about 30% of seniors have a favorable view of the Medicare drug benefit, while 46% have an unfavorable view of the program. Additionally:
- Among 154 enrolled seniors, 44% are "very satisfied" with their drug plan, and 31% are "somewhat satisfied"
- 11% of enrolled seniors are "not too satisfied" with their drug plan and 10% are "not at all satisfied"
- 31% of seniors are already enrolled in Medicare drug plans, and 13% plan to enroll; 38% do not plan to enroll, and 16% have not yet decided
According to the report, despite some positive feedback from enrollees, views about Part D may remain unfavorable due to early implementation problems and negative media reports.
