CMS considering ways to control proliferation of drug plan offerings

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is considering limits on the number of prescription drug plans (PDPs) in geographic regions in 2007 to simplify beneficiary choice. In a draft "call letter" that was sent out for comment to PDPs, CMS officials said they would like feedback on approaches that would limit the number of plans, "in addition to considering PDP sponsor performance throughout the 2006 contract year."
