Sierra View District Hospital in Porterville, CA, has begun an initiative to reduce patient wait time and improve patient flow throughout the hospital. The initiative allows patients to pre-register for care through the hospital's web site. Patients can enter their registration information up to three days before their appointment, and the information becomes part of their permanent medical records.

Once the information is entered, it remains on file and the patient will not have to repeat the entry for other appointments. The information is stored electronically, making any future transfers to other facilities easier.

By allowing patients to enter the information at home, the hospital has successfully decreased the amount of waiting time for those already in the office.
