Medicare Part D delays creating potential problems

Governmental delays in filing Medicare Part D applications will likely create problems for some beneficiaries when the program begins in two weeks, reports The New York Times. Insurance executives claim the delays keep them from issuing identification cards to those who wish to enroll, and they cannot guarantee everyone will have a card when the program begins.
Pharmacists will likely turn away beneficiaries who do not have identification cards.
Technical problems with one of the government's computer systems may be one source of the delay. Another problem, according to Gary R. Karr from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), is that CMS found errors in data submitted by some of the plans. The time it takes to fix the errors has contributed to the delay.
