The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is creating a fraud, waste, and abuse (FWA) prevention policy for insurance plans offering the Medicare Part D drug benefit that starts at the beginning of 2006. CMS issued an eight-page fraud compliance document in June, and as a result of public comments, that document has recently been expanded to about 70 pages and is awaiting final approval. The new policy will be released in January with a final version published in late February or early March.
