Visitors to Mount Clemens General Hospital's (MCGH) first on-site, inpatient and elective surgery center can watch TV, hop on the Internet, sip a latte, or stroll through the Healing Garden. While off-site surgery centers have become popular, Mount Clemens General offers patients the convenience of a separate facility with the safety of immediate hospital access directly next door, in addition to state of the art architecture and amenities.
"In the past, inpatient, outpatient, elective and emergency cases were all thrown together," said Bob Milewski, MCGH president and CEO. "The end result? If your mother is in the hospital for a hip replacement and a heart attack victim comes in, she is no longer a priority. With the surgery center, if a surgery is scheduled for 10 a.m., that's when we're going to do it."
James Jordan, medical director for Inpatient and Ambulatory Surgical Services, is another advocate of the surgical center. "Multiple studies have shown separating elective inpatient surgeries improves efficiencies." Jordan also stated that the architectural design promotes deinstitutionalizing the hospital experience, and promotes better health and a sense of well-being.
